About Qianli: The Vastscape Scroll

Qianli: The Vastscape Scroll is a hex-tile building game that abandons the terrain rules that define most of its peers. Instead of snapping pieces to biome restrictions or landscape logic, you place each tile freely, treating the canvas as pure clay. The release date for Qianli is July 16, 2026 on PC, and the game's central gamble is that creative liberty without friction will feel more meditative than limiting.

The core loop sits between diorama building and roguelite structure: you construct a world across runs, befriend mystical creatures as you shape the landscape, and chase either a high score or simply the pleasure of creation. The art direction draws directly from classical Chinese ink painting—specifically the masterwork A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains—which grounds the abstract hex mechanics in a visual language most building games ignore. Where Townscaper offers preset aesthetics and Dorfromantik enforces puzzle constraints, Qianli promises both puzzle challenge and the freedom to ignore it entirely, letting the player choose between strategic play and pure sandbox drift.

No terrain rules, no wrong answers

The decisive risk is whether boundless placement remains engaging across multiple runs. Traditional hex builders gain tension from scarcity and constraint—the puzzle is finding where pieces legally fit. Remove that friction and you must replace it with something else: either roguelite progression systems compelling enough to warrant replays, or an art-crafting experience so intrinsically satisfying that the lack of external challenge does not hollow it out. The game does not yet reveal how deep the roguelite layer runs, what the creature companionship system does mechanically, or how progression unlocks new tiles across runs.

For players drawn to the meditative side of Islanders or Preserve, where mood matters as much as mechanics, the watercolor aesthetic and constraint-free placement are strong pulls. Anyone expecting the satisfying puzzle rigor of Dorfromantik should wait for hands-on coverage; creative freedom and puzzle tightness often pull in opposite directions, and whether Betobe Studio has threaded both is unproven.

Wishlist if you value artistic presentation and open-ended creative tools over puzzle pressure, or if you loved the diorama-building pace of games built around beauty rather than optimization.
